Spa-ah Day:

Updated: May 6, 2021

Spa pampering

I run around as we all do, all week long, following the same steps every day, in and out of work and then running errands on weekends, cleaning and cooking. It seems that my mind is always busy weighing, comparing, categorizing and listing things that need to get done and, of course, this is followed up with the how and the when of it all. I catch myself many times thinking, is this what life is all about, chasing our tails, trying to make ends meet whether financially or otherwise. The truth of it is that we have built a way of life that seems to be increasingly more demanding of our time and energy and if we let it, we will eventually spin out of control, and end up emotionally, mentally, spiritually and physically drained. That’s why it is imperative to take a time-out on a regular basis, in order to replenish ourselves.

One of my favourite things to do to, is to spoil myself with a day at the spa, alone, or with a girlfriend or two. Girlfriends, that is, that understand that time spent talking is relegated to the carpool portion of the trip and mealtime. Girlfriends, with a common purpose, to be immersed in quiet reflection and oneness with the elements and with the scents that surround us. Time shared in quiet reflection is just as powerful, if not more so than constant chatter. Without a word, much is said, felt and shared.

There is something so wonderful about waking up and knowing that the only thing on my to-do list is pampering myself. Getting comfortably dressed, packing a little bag and catching up with good friends as we make our way to a piece of heaven. Then, upon arrival the ritual of receiving a bathrobe, towel, water bottle and locker key at the reception, smelling of scents that remind me of my past travels to exotic places immediately puts me into receiving mode. And when I first step into the hot tub, my body lets out a sweet, blissful sigh. Ahh, heaven. To timeout, away from home is to guarantee that I disconnect completely, and I automatically become conscious of the present moment, being in the now and of making the most of every precious wonderful moment.

I wish you all, a happy spa day during this beautiful yet normally hectic holiday time. Namaste.
