As we continue to move up the spine to the next chakra in review, the third or Solar Plexus chakra, let us review quickly the location and orientation of the first two chakras covered in the previous two blogs.

The Root Chakra is located at the base of the spine, and is associated with survival and self-preservation whereas the Sacral Chakra is located in the abdomen and is associated with self-gratification. Now let us proceed with the Solar Plexus chakra.

The following excerpts of information on deficiency, excess and balance within this chakra are taken from an extraordinary work of art by Anodea Judith—in her book Eastern Body, Western Mind.

Solar Plexus Chakra—Chakra #3:

  • Associated with self-definition

  • Located in the upper abdomen

When this chakra is deficient, the following issues may arise:

  • low energy

  • weak will, easily manipulated

  • poor self-discipline and follow-through

  • low self-esteem

  • cold, emotionally and/or physically

  • poor digestion

  • collapsed middle

  • attraction to stimulants

  • victim mentality, blaming of others

  • passive

  • unreliable

When this chakra has excess energy, the effects can entail

  • overly aggressive, dominating, controlling

  • need to be right, have the last word

  • manipulative, power hungry, deceitful

  • attraction to sedatives

  • temper tantrums, violent outbursts

  • stubbornness

  • driving ambition (type A personality)

  • competitive

  • arrogant

  • hyperactive

When this chakra is balanced;

  • responsible, reliable

  • balanced, effective will

  • good self-esteem, balanced with ego-strength

  • warmth in personality

  • confidence

  • spontaneity, playfulness, sense of humour

  • appropriate self-discipline

  • sense of one’s personal power

  • able to meet challenges

In my experience, healing begins with the acknowledgement that something in our lives isn’t working and/or isn’t flowing effortlessly. Healing begins when we take a good hard look at ourselves and truthfully evaluate where we have come from, where we are now and what it is, we care to see emerge in the future.

One must desire a change for the better and decide to do something about it. There comes a time when you either throw in the towel and give up on yourself or you say, today is first day of the rest of my life and I will manifest health and well-being.

Through my own, very long route to healing, which continues to this day, I have learned and know for a fact, that desire is a wonderful start, but nothing happens until you take action. Remember that you have nothing to lose and everything to gain by taking action. You, matter. Believe it. Act on it.
