A prayer was once introduced to me during my level one Reiki training, which is based on the “Five Reiki Principles”, by the founder of Reiki, Dr. Mikao Usui. He believed that in order to best assist in healing others, one needed to heal the self first through daily living of these principles.
Just for today, do not be angry Just for today, do not worry
Just for today, be grateful Just for today, work hard
Just for today, be kind to all living creatures
– Dr. Mikao Usui
This was not a prayer that I was familiar with prior to this occasion and unlike other prayers, no higher power is being supplicated. It’s a perfect prayer - a gift to ourselves, helping us to lead richer lives and in turn, leading us to self-transformation.
If each of us took on the responsibility for our own healing, the result would be a world of joy and peace. Imagine if we all learned to implement but one of these principles in our daily lives, consistently and conscientiously - what a difference in the world this alone would make.
“Be the change you wish to see in the world”. – Mahatma Gandi
