Animals, Reiki Energy and Living in the Now

Animals are Sensitive:

If there is one thing that I have noticed when treating animals with reiki is that they are incredibly sensitive to its energy even when I haven’t even begun treatment or turned on the tap if you will, as if my palms were leaking droplets of reiki at all times.

Over the years of practice just the thought of starting a treatment will cause me to feel at times my hands tickle and heat up and begin to pulse or course energy. However, animals have often pointed out that I might actually now be energetically transformed or leaking as I call it because they have done some of the strangest things to point this out in times and places that I did not intend for a session to take place.

A Goat Insists Upon Treatment:

I had taken by little sister at the time to an orchard nearby where they kept a little menagerie of farm animals and I was simply enjoying her excitement being around them when a creature filled the cup of my dangling hand. I looked down and there was a young goat who instead of nuzzling for hand outs pushed the top of his head in my hand and was standing perfectly still even as his siblings were frolicking nearby. Not realizing quite that instant what was taking place I went to pet him but he was clear that was not his desire. He again pushed his head into the palm of my hand and so I decided to play the game. I left a mild pressure and minutes ticked by and he simply stood there seemingly oblivious to all around and quite calm and content. It was then that the imaginary light-bulb illuminated above my head and I realized that he had in fact insisted upon a healing and so I immediately turned on the tap and I could actually witness the pulling of energy from me to him. We remained this way for then next ten minutes. I had become acutely aware of the quizzical looks from others around me and that of my little sister whom asked what we were doing?

Maneuvering Horses:

Horses are quite funny with reiki as well. Whilst hand placements on smaller animals means that I can cover a large part of their body, they in turn tend not to feel the need to maneuver about, requesting where they want treatment. Horses, however, sometimes get what I deem as impatient and so several times with different horses they will rotate themselves, lean into, nuzzle my hands or hug me by way of curling their neck and head into a place indicating where they would more appreciate me to work. They also tend to be the most demonstrative of their pleasure, licking and salivating profusely, generally followed by what I call complete comatose, a deep relaxation. I must concede that I simply enjoy when they do this as it confirms that they are benefiting from the session by actively participating. I have seen some pretty interesting reactions on the onset, from almost immediate freezing with the look of “whoa what’s going on?” to instant relaxation and sleepiness to physically moving into the palms of my hands for a better feel or perhaps to assuage their curiosity.

Living in the Now:

So why is it, animals are so in tune to energy? I believe it is because they are consistently living in the now. They aren’t overwhelmed with problems and stress at work, daydreaming about this and that or busy shuttling their kids to this party or that practice. Each second of the day is conscious and therefore filled with total awareness to all changes in their environment. Lack of blockages or distractions leads to immediate acknowledgment of any changes in their environment and leaves them entirely open and most responsive to healing.
